The Canon Speedlite 580EX is the top model of the hot shoe flash units offered by Canon for use with their latest film and digital cameras. It replaces the Speedlite 550EX and offers a smaller body, more flash power, faster recycling, consistent color, and enhanced operating controls. It's compatible with Canon E-TTL II technology built into newer cameras, which first evaluates subject distance and other information then modifies the flash output power for more accurate exposures, regardless of subject size, reflectance, or hue. Thus accurate detail will be recorded in both black tuxedoes and white wedding dresses and still retain accurate flesh tones.
